Wish For A Custom Skype App Contest
Skype developer Don Kennedy will write a Skype program for you. Free. In two weeks.
Just ask for what you want in the comments below. "Dear Don, I wish Skype could..."
Don built a Skype bot that translates live Skype chats in 43 languages. An app that monitors your subscription use. A tool that lets you make Skype calls from your mobile through your PC with Skype using a normal mobile phone.
So I challenged Don to build for the #lazyweb. For a random stranger with a clear need.
And it's up to you.

Dear Don, I wish Skype could update my mood with the latest of my twitter, facebook and foursquare updates.
When you can't get a cell phone signal and you have a wifi connection. Connect using the "dead cell zones" mobile application. http://deadcellzones.com
Don, I'd like one of these for Skype to Wave
http://www.wave.to/robots/wavelivemessenger/
Dear Don, I wish Skype could link to twitter directly without the need of a 3rd party contact like twitter4skype
Dear Don, I wish Skype could connect to Jabber
Dear Don, I wish Skype could be used as an interface/client to gmail
Dear Don, I wish that Skype would allow me to have a different online status according to groups of contacts. e.g. business contacts don't see me online after 5pm, friends don't see me online during working hours and that forwarded calls could be set according to who's calling.
Dear Don:
I wish Skype could, at the press of a button, transfer a current Skype call to another phone.
I have a free application that can do call transfer with the click of a button here:
Dear Don, I'd like a new web button generator that creates links/badges/html to Skype public chats. Skype's current redirection is broken.
Hi Done, here is Eddie's request to challenge you. I like to see a Task/Meeting Scheduler integrated into Skype. It should either be able in accepting direct entries from user, or fetch the latest from Google Scheduler cum Calendar and last but not least also from my Outlook Calendar. If the user enters a Schedule directly it has to Update also your Outlook and Google Calendar. Such a feature would prevent having three Apps open at the same time and stick to Skype only.
Hi, this is just to clarify that "Eddie's" Wish is from "eddie_adventure". Thanks for noting.
Hi, Don,
When will have formal release version on Andriod platform to replace present Beta version now, just like a formal version for iPhone. Skype to Skype call is free not charge SkypeOut credit.
Kevin
Dear Don,
I wish two things:
1. Skype for the Mac has separate proxy settings. (So it has the option not to use the network settings)
2. Now that we can share the screen be able to control it like VNC.
Thanks,
Maciej
Dear Don, i beleive i have a worthy challenge. I have a 3 skypephone, and the convenience of having skype on the go regardless of wifi coverage is unparalleled. There is one glaring flaw however.
I also have an online number, which the skype phone wont allow me to be contacted by on the go. Fair enough, the phone has a regular mobile number or that. But it seems that 3's architecture for mobile skype actually changes the privacy settings on my account for skypein, from allow all calls to only allow calls from contacts! Thus rendering the skype client running on my PC at home unable to take skypein calls or record voicemail for them while i am out. I dont know why it does this, and all i have to do to go the the privacy settings myself and change it back, atleast once a day, possibly more often, and all is fine then, but the skypephone keeps changing it back. So im torn between having the skypephone and essentially giving up my online number essentially or vice vera. What would be fantastic is if you could write a small program to run continuously on my PC and poll the privacy setting for skypeIN calls on my account, and make sure its set to allow any calls. This would allow me to finally integrate my entire communications methods through skype and give me peace of mind that im not missing calls and voicemails while out! And id love to distribute the progrm for free far and wide, im not the only person in the UK to have this problem with the 3 skypephone. Thanks for the consideration!
Dear Don, I wish Skype could have a skin manager so we can change the ugly UI,thanks
Hi Phil & don,
Just for the fun I wrote few ideas that could be nice:
1. “Call alarm/remainder” – you can set the software to call you at specific time trough skypeout and wake you up in the morning with voice that you presetting in the software.
2. Software that Record the video.
3. Skype to broadcasting; this mean you call from your Skype to “Skype to broadcasting server software” that answer your Skype call and “grab” your voice and video and translate it as broadcasting software, so now I could ask 500 people to go to my link and see me broadcasting from Skype.
I would like you to fix Skype 4 so that it looks like Skype 3.8...! :-)
Thanks
sorry I missed this. I would love to think about it and make suggestions. Is it to late or is there still time?
"Dear Don and Phil"
Thanks for this, both of you. Really fun!
I have 2 for now... if its not too late. (what DID Phil choose Nov 1 btw ???)
1) I would add to this one from an earlier comment ...
" I wish that Skype would allow me to have a different online status according to groups of contacts. e.g. business contacts don't see me online after 5pm, friends don't see me online during working hours and that forwarded calls could be set according to who's calling."
... to have different Skype status or settings for Public chat rooms. Or some better way to control rooms.
Notifications never worked like I liked... it should control a Public (and Group, for that matter) chat events according to Notification settings.
A Public chat, Tools and Options > Chat Notification Setting read...
"Chat Notifications will alert you when some thing new happens in this chat. The chat window will blink in the task bar or re open if you have closed it." (an event)
Then you have 3 choices, Notify or not and only if certain words are mentioned.
It has never worked for me. The event occurs even if you choose keywords. It re opens, unless I am on Do Not Disturb status. There must be a better way.
A lot more could be done with Notifications. Like set global key alert words for all rooms then have the ability to add custom ones based on a chats topic.
I spend a lot of my time supporting people new to Public chat rooms and I can see how more control of group and public chat rooms would really help.
and...
2) Allow version 4.x (and all future Skype upgrades), to have all the functions with Public Chat rooms it used to have with version 3.8 , ie, create Public chats, join chats from a link, see the chat guidelines, etc - http://incomeassurance.com/blog/message-magic-skype-rooms-and-skype-v40/
Thanks again! Really fun idea!
