Video4Skype a new 3rd party Plug-in
Nicolas, a fellow beta tester in France, and I just tested the new Video4Skype a new 3rd party API Plug-in

Skype like and slick, one minute to download and install. I really liked its excellent colour renditioning.
It features:
• No network configuration
• End-to-End encryption
• Free
It is strictly one 2 one video conferencing for now.
It is a Beta 0.8 version and as such still suffers from a fair amount of pixilation.
The video bandwidth comsumption was medium to high. I was uploading at 8 Kb per second and downloading at 18 KB. I will test this further today.
I highly recomend test driving this product.

I am curious to understand why your bandwidth usage was not symmetrical. were you two using different resolutions?

Hey JC!
Thanks for stopping by...
Non-symetrical bandwidth? Probably I was on high resolution. Nikolas was probably set lower. Hard to tell. I speak no French, and his English not too good. (smile)
Tests with Ramon later were the same. Unless I lowered my resolution setting to 50%. So there may be some bandwidth management problems.

Hi Bill,
This is spontania support department:
There can be a pixelation due to a relay connectivity through our server. We have identified 8 different NAT types. For NAT type 4 (symmetric) and type 6 (noudp) it is not a P2P connectivity. We limitate upload and download connection when using our server as relay in order to avoid colapsing the server.
For the rest of NAT types it is a pure P2P connection and video quality will improve exceptionally.
Anyway I assume that you have tested the plugin by adjusting video-quality taht will balance video pixelation and bandwith consumption.
Hope this helps to clarify.
Regards

Hey spontania support department!
Glad you dropped by. Thanks for the pointers on how Video4Skype works. That is helpful.
Bandwidth is often not symetrical even when both parties have tons of bandwidth and the same Logitec 4000 Pro. For instance I am in a call now I am up loading 160 kbs and downloading 64.

Bonjour Pascal!
I had help from Nicolas getting your comment translated:
"hi, I have to install Skype (a friend of mine wanted to talk to other side of the world) I found this soft great, and, randomly I found video4skype. IT'S GREAT !!!!!! but why not a direct link in Skype Audio. Bye"
"tu me demandes pourquoi video4skype n'est pas intégrée à Skype ?"
I am not sure I understand your question.

I downloaded it, and first it didn't work (i mean the autotest - your own video). Restarted my computer, NO WAY!
The i had the very clever ;-) idea to connect my lousy Intel CS110 webcam to a direct USM port of my computer instead of through my USB HUB, and it works!
Strange!
