Microsoft turns on even more heat for Skype
What a week for Skype. Microsoft buys Teleo to increase its presence in VoIP/VON space. This follows last week's intro of Google Talk, and the surprise release of MSN's release of 7.5.
VOIP can't get hotter? Watch out for Yahoo who are on stage for an announcement at VON Boston in mid September.
This acquisition gives MSN PSTN connectivity. This may cut into Skype's SkypeOut revenue streams.
Skype created this space. Dominates this space. Can they keep this space? Can they turn the vapourware "initiatives" of SkypeNet and SkypeWeb into products fast enough?
Exciting times for Skype's 2nd birthday. Lot's of presents. (grin)
Thanks to my Skype Journal man in the UK Martin Schoenenberger for the heads up on this news.

In order to allow a financial viable "ecosystem" to exist around the "business" of skype, the following is needed :
- distributor channels that get financial rewards for sales realized, going from pre-sales, developments, after-sales support.
- skype must also tighten the security-holes in their current and future solutions. Do you want to resell a conference "solution" in which any employee that left the firm or that picked up the password somewhere, can listen in to the ongoing conversations. no thank you (for me at least). currently it still possible to login on more than 1 skype with the same account and follow all ongoing traffic. It would be like selling a cellphone to company, but virtually anybody can login to this cellphone and follow the contacts and the sms's. That is crazy.
- become a telecom / VoIP company which will test wether they are streetwise or not. You want to sell ! Well then, sell. And let other people sell too. It's a very competitive world out there. Again : how the hell can you sell something that is for free.
