PSGw 2.0 SIP for Skype

I've been tracking a piece of software PSGw 2.0 for a few weeks that connects Skype to SIP and SIP to Skype. Basically your own SIP gateway for Skype. Add it to your PC and you could route inbound Skype calls on a generic number to your Asterisk PBX. This is another "software" workaround. Tom Keating has written up a detailed explanation. See also Asterisk VoIP News. I've not tested it, I don't really have the situation for it. I'd be intersted to hear from people that have and their implementation stories. It does make me curious.

Tried using it a while ago, and again now. The SIP part works but the voice quality is not so good. More of a toy than something reliable.

I installed it and played with it a little. It looks like you could have it use PhoneGnome SoftGnome credentials to have it send Skype calls to a PhoneGnome for partial Skype to PhoneGnome bridging. The weak part is it seems to want to map from any to one in both directions.

In the case of Skype to SIP calls, this makes sense: all incoming Skype calls go to the associated PhoneGnome. However, in the SIP to Skype direction, all calls mapping to a single Skype ID is not very useful. This means PhoneGnome can be used to receive Skype calls, but you'd only be able to call one Skype buddy from the PhoneGnome as this PSGw product appears to exist today. I've contacted the developers. We'll see what they have to say.
