Unyte with Skype

Are you using Unyte 1.0 yet? If not I recommend you download it and try it out with your buddies. It allows desktop screen sharing and is integrates very effectively with Skype. To add that professional web conferencing capability (free on a one to one basis) to your Skype sessions you can choose which applications you want to expose. So web demos, sales presentations, student mentoring, distance learning, joint code development, etc all just became a whole lot easier.

I've used screen sharing programs before. Examples are Glance (similar pricing arrangements) and TightVNC which is a more complicated set up. Unyte compares well with these solutions. Once downloaded the speed to install and use is very quick. As with all programs like this there is a small delay between the two desktops. So for most sharing applications (where you both want to work on something) you just set it in fast mode. A nice aspect is you can select the application you are sharing or you can select all. I found it effective at sharing a powerpoint presentation. Note!, the buddy with which you are sharing is not required to download anything. They just click on your Skype chat invite and this will open a browser window with your desktop on it. Unyte works for multi-chats too, although that is a value added service. Perfect for small businesses.

There is not much else to add. Download and use. It's an item that every Skyper will want to use from time to time. Try it the next time you are trying to edit a document with another in cyberspace.

Unyte's website might be of use to them and potential customers if it actually worked. More egregious Flash.

Not only is it easier to use but it works with networks which I had not been able to connect with TightVNC. I have used it successfully on commercial presentations.

That's true you can share your desktop using Skype Video. It doesn't provide the same level of access capability or specific sharing of just one open application. It also won't work for groups. However it is a fast and easy solution for one on one sharing.

Hi There,

I tried today unyte, it worked smoothly, the display is of course a little bit slow, but except that, it'is so simple and so efficient.
I used to install an app on a friends's laptop

Great blog by the way, keep up the good work !

This is just what I have been looking for, and at a price I can afford (free!). Over the past 6 weeks, I have become somewhat of an authority on desktop sharing solutions, and had met nothing but frustration.

My requirements were the following a) high quality, depndable audio b) acceptable video c)a top quality whiteboard application d) desktop sharing capability. ( You may be thinking , hey, Unyte doesn't have a whiteboard....stay tuned !)

Well as most of us already know, Skype fit the bill for audio/video, so two down, two to go. Then I came accross Unyte and that took care of my desktop sharing challenge. And may I say, what a marvelous collaboration this is. This simply is the easiest, most user friendly solution I could possibly have hoped for. Worked first time, and every time since flawlessly. I couldn't be happier, and you will be too.

Oh yes, and as for the whiteboard? Here is the solution.

Download this whiteboard program to your hard drive. Open it up as a shared program when you employ Unyte desktop sharing, and you will have the best quality whiteboard program available. Not only will you have file sharing, PowerPoint, etc. , etc , but audio recording, video recording, and on and on.

If you get the idea that I am happy about Unyte's recent entry into the desktop sharing market, well you're right. Thank you Skype, thank you Unyte, and thank you Smart Technologies for the whiteboard program.
